malmo (se)

Malmo, Sweden is 35 minutes from Copenhagen by train. It's cheaper than CPH and lots of stores -- that's what I'd heard. We'd already done two train transfers through there (to go to Stockholm and Berlin) but hadn't gotten out of the station. I was afraid it wouldn't be much more than Tijuana, but was still curious since the train trip wasn't that expensive. Unfortunately Bruce had to finish his papers, so I went over with a grad student friend Erin from Toronto. This was her first time to Sweden, and it was my third!

Hooray! Proof that I've made it outside of the Central Station in Malmo!

International flags across from the central station.

Nestea was doing a beach volleyball demo in front of the city hall. (insert eye roll) We stopped for eye candy. I got an action shot... you see the ball in midair, eh?

But I also managed to get a picture of the building (city hall) itself above the beach volleyball court.

Cool side of building...

I wanna live in this building...

The musician conga line on the main shopping street.

And here's a closeup of the sax player.

Nice view down another canal...

Closeup of a fountain... water pouring out of every possible
orifice, and yes, those are skulls in the person's arms.

University Bridge, on the other side of the train station.

Through the bridge...

Turning Torso (190 m tall)

Not sure I'd like tourists coming up to my home all the time... then again, they chose to live there, eh... (yes, it's a residential building)

Geek fun! (Erin's an engineer.) This is a playground next to the Turning Torso, slightly educational. We were taking all sorts of pictures, and the Swedish family there probably thought we were nuts. They were right.

Photosynthesis, explained in Swedish. :) The other side has a pictogram food chain with a climbing wall.

To get back to the main part of town, we walked through a park.

(torso on the left)

Cool building with cool balcony...

On the Metro ride back to our side of Copenhagen, we got the back window seat. (And for what it's worth... Malmo is much nicer than Tijuana!!!)
