on to prague

Our next big destination was Budapest. However... 20+ hours by train from Copenhagen. So we decided to break things up a bit. Overnight train to Berlin, a few hours there for some last-minute shopping that we wanted to do (did you know that a lot of Berlin doesn't open up until 11.00?) and then a short hop to Prague, where we'd spend just shy of 48 hours.

So, here is a short piece on our journey to Prague. Prague itself will get its own post.

As we waited at the dock... we were on a train/car ferry from Sweden to Germany, on our way to Berlin. Looking across to an identical ferry...

We got to Berlin and found it pretty much dead, other than a donut shop with no seating... so much for wandering around much.

Everything closed other than a 24 hour cafe/nightclub... at least there was somewhere to get breakfast, and it was somewhere with cool seating!

Strolled over to the TV Tower for some more pictures

This was some sort of sand castle event they were having near the Berlin central train station.

Uh oh... what is that big green thing... is that... A HILL???? This is our first hill in over 6 weeks!!! (just south of Dresden on the train)

And we would see a lot more of these hills as we crossed the border to our first Czech town.

We finally made it to our B&B in Prague... depite being kicked off the train shortly after entering Czech Republic, being told our tickets weren't actually valid (we got some talkin' to do once we're back in the states). Luckily in the small town, someone at the station spoke English, we got a pretty cheap ticket, and we were able to get a train an hour later...
